How did you come up with the design for this and why is it a spiral?

The spiral pattern looks cool but does it really make any difference if it is a sprial or all in one loop?

Internal speaker of the TS-890 is too small for use in noisy environments. During JOTA the scouts are unable to use the radio without an external speaker. I did not see the knob turn, how did you tune?

You may have heating of the ceramic capacitor that causes the drift. That small size would not be up to handling any large amount of RF current the would flow through the loop.

I wish you made these commercially for the DX Commander classic. Would buy one for sure.

I do not have a TS890, but I do have a FTDX-10 in my small apartment in a rural area, working with a ATAS 120 yaesu mobile antenna and another comet also mobile antenna on my porch. I have to say it works so nice, great selectivity, sensitivity. I am working mostly CW and therfore less affected from the "metalic sound" of the digital filtering. A great transceiver.

My TS 890 looks so nice on the desk!!! The receiver can't compete with my FTDX 101 or my FTDX 10. I prefer the looks of the 890. My ears prefer the Yaesu receiver.

I like to go to websdr's all over US and elsewhere and xmit cw. Can see immediatly how well an antenna or xfrmr is doing. These 64-1 9-1 49-1 etc are so confusing when they dont tell you if its impedance or number of turns they are talking about.

What distance were you away from? The first transmission and second transmission using the different radios. Cheers!

How much power can this 64:1 UnUn Balun handle? CW? Digital Transmission? USB?

I will be moving to Italy in September and will finally be able to get to erect some form of HF antenna. If all goes well I will be looking for a new radio. I have had my eye on the TS590SG but seeing the TS890s in operation I am not so sure now. 73 de G0LQP

Instead of threading the whole length of wire through each hole, start with the halfway portion of the wire from the middle hole and thread one end of the wire out from there to the centre and the other end of the wire from there to the outside.

The Kenwood has much better audio. The dsp on the Yaesu makes the background noise less. Kenwood has poor, substandard noise reduction compared to the other Japanese OEM’s in my opinion. Congratulations on owning two fabulous HF rigs.

Did you seal the vertical mast tip? Otherwise you might get a place for water to intrude.
